Paul and I (Jan) are at a stage in our lives where we would like to enjoy more travelling. We are experienced exchangers, having done almost 20 swaps over more than 15 years. We are avid outdoor people, enjoying camping, fishing, skiing and touring in quiet areas. We also love big cities, and all they offer. We love meeting people and enjoy discovering new and interesting regions around the world. We sometimes travel with friends and we have grown children who may visit us on our travels.
We love good food and beverages, wandering back streets of big cities and meandering back roads in the countryside. We golf, ski, fish and enjoy lots of outdoor pursuits, whilst also enjoying galleries, theatre and museums.
We spent the month of January, 2012 at Jan and Paul's beautiful home in Devonport, Tasmania. It was a wonderful experience in every way. Their home is in a clean, quiet area, only a block from the ocean and a 10 minute walk to a lovely beach. Devonport is a clean city, large enough to have everything one needs but small enough to be comfortable and friendly. It is well located for seeing many of the sights in the area and Tasmania itself is small enough that we got to explore pretty much the whole island. It is a beautiful place and well worth a visit. As this was a non-simultaneous exchange, Jan and Paul were at their "shack" (in Canada we call it a cottage) in the central highlands while we were in their home, and we had the great pleasure of visiting them there for a couple of days. They are wonderful people who we now think of as friends. At the risk of being repetitive, we have nothing but good to say about our exchange experience with Jan and Paul and would highly recommend it to anyone.
Charles and I came direct from hectic, chilly, dark London to Tasmania. What a contrast! We loved our stay - two lovely weeks with Jan and Paul in Devonport and another marvellous fortnight in Hobart. Many visitors stay only in the south of the island, but we are thrilled to have spent time in the north. The scenery is marvellous, the light gorgeous, and the air just like champagne - such a joy to have the sea just outside the front door and pristine Cradle Mountain an easy drive away. The house is perfect - stylish yet comfortable, with a brilliant new kitchen. All that, and Jan and Paul are wonderful hosts, welcoming, generous and thoughtful. A memorable exchange.
We had a wonderful exchange experience with Heather and Charles. They were always prompt corresponding, were a wealth of information and showed great understanding and flexibility when it came to fixing the dates of our non simultaneous visit to their home in London. Their house is a lovely comfortable home situated in a great neighbourhood with some terrific restaurants, cafes and pubs. It is only a couple of minutes walk to the tube station where there are regular trains to the centre of London. Heather and Charles took great care of our home. It was great to come home to a sparkling clean house. We would not hesitate in recommending them and their house as a great swap.
