- Maureen Retired biochemist (70)
My name is Maureen. I'm a senior, single woman, my husband of 43 years having died, to my great sorrow, in 2009. I began my adult life as a nurse and worked in general and midwifery areas until my first child was born when I left work (as one did in those days) to raise our family and care for our home(s). In my later life, when our 2 girls were approaching adulthood, I returned to university and, on a rollercoaster, stayed until I completed a PhD in biochemistry/immunology. Soon after that my ever-restless husband wanted to go to sea, so we sold up everything, bought a large catamaran and lived on board, mostly around the coasts of Aus, for 11 years. We sold the cat' in early 2008 and were planning to buy a canal barge to live in Europe and England for a few years. It was during this time that my husband fell ill and those dreams were lost.
So, I'm retired but very fit and well and believe I am loaded with common sense, practical, frugal ways and, hopefully, a measure of wisdom. I would take very good care of any home entrusted to me. My late husband and I house-and-pet-sat on numerous occasions here in Aus. I very successfully exchanged homes and cars in Kent and Yorkshire, UK, for a month, and 2 weeks in 2011 and exchanged with a Catalonian family in 2013 for 8 weeks . I might add that while Australian I am English born. I wish to go to England again, this time from about March-May/June to walk in Cornwall and Devon. I could exchange anywhere, really, during that time. Doesn't have to be England. I've never been asked for references but am happy to supply if required.
