Our Neighborhood
Kinsale is amongst Irelands' most historic locations for it has been a centre of population, commerce, trade and fishing for many centuries. Kinsale was the site of the Battle of Kinsale in 1601 which was a turning point in Irish history, fought between a combined Spanish, Irish force and English armies. The beautiful sheltered harbour is guarded by two very fine star-shaped fortresses built in the 17th century. Charles Fort is exceptional and well worth a visit - the views are out of this world. Jame Fort is also worth a visit to walk and see views across to Charles Fort and then stop for a pint of the dark stuff, or whatever your tipple is, to sit and watch the sun set over Castlepark Marina, the second marina of Kinsale, where there is also a delightful sandy beach, perfect for the children whilst you enjoy your pint! Other places of historic interest are the Museum of Kinsale, St. Multose Church (13th century) , The French Prison and wine Museum, and 16th century Desmond Castle. The town is just packed with history, Georgian and Victorian architecture and filled with tiny quaint streets in which cars have great problems during the summer months- so it is best to be on foot- but then it really is a tiny place and very easy to get to know. Take a trip to the Old Head of Kinsale for magnificent scenery - it was off this point that the Lusitania sunk in 1915. At night the famous Kinsale Ghost Tour leaves from the Tap Tavern, a great local pub, and on foot you will be scared out of your skin and have a lot of fun.
Kinsale is famous as the Gourmet capital of Ireland filled with a great variety of restaurants and eateries and just too many lovely old pubs to mention. The fishing industry thrives here so fresh fish and seafood are a speciality and not to be missed. The famous Fishy Fishy Cafe is opposite St. Multose Church, where you can sit outside and eat the best seafood ever whilst watching the town go by.
Maritime activities such as cruising, deep sea angling with blue shark fishing, yacht charters, river trips, scuba diving are all available here. We are fortunate to have a superb Outdoor Education Centre in Kinsale which will organise any courses that you or your children would like to do, weekly or daily. It is an ideal spot for children to really have an adventure holiday whilst the parents could go off touring.
Nearby beaches, coves and inlets allow safe bathing, swimming, snorkelling and on some beaches such as Garretstown and Inchydony, surfing and bodyboarding.
Kinsale boasts 3 fine golf course in varying locations. Kinsale Golf Club has a 9 hole parkland course and an 18 hole meadowland course, while The Old Head Golf Links is a spectacular 18 hole championship course with sensational views. Visitors are most welcome at these courses.
Kinsale is a mere 30 minute drive to Cork city (17 miles) and Cork International airport is only 13 miles away. The Cork ferryport of Ringaskiddy is 14 miles while Killarney and the start of the Ring of Kerry is 54 miles. It is an idyllic base to use for touring the South West of Ireland, and savouring the very gentle and relaxed way of life.
Kinsale benefits from being situated on the Gulf Stream and hence has a very mild climate, the water being warm in the summer months. Throughout summer and autumn the hedgeways of Cork are a brilliant blaze of red - wild fuchsia hedgerows which are local to the county of Cork.

Other Information
We have a wonderful 34 foot yacht, 8 berth, which could also be included or negotiated if you are an experienced sailor. It is moored on the main Kinsale Marina in a very convenient position.
We do not mind well- behaved pets and would prefer non-smokers. We would love to meet you on your arrival if we are around, and introduce you to our beautiful home, town, and country.
We will leave plenty of information leaflets on all that there is to do and see locally.
If you wish to rent the house during the summer it could be available in July, August and September for monthly rentals. Please contact me for prices and availability.

Our Dates
January 2014 for a Copenhagen long-term exchange.
Otherwise, open to any sunny destination by the sea in July or August, before we leave to live in Copenhagen!
We would love Southern Italy or Tuscany, Spain, the Balearic Islands or Malta.
Our Destinations
We are looking for a long-term exchange (minimum 1 year) near the centre of Copenhagen. My husband is currently working there and rather than relocating we would prefer to do an exchange and hope that we could share our lives with a like-minded family or perhaps a retired couple who would like to spend time in this wonderful part of Ireland! We would prefer a house with at least 3 bedrooms and a garden. We can exchange cars and our yacht if wanted and would prefer to be able to take our pets with us (they are extremely well behaved!).
Otherwise, we would like a 2 - 3 week exchange in a sunny Mediterranean destination near the sea in July / August - Belearic Islands, Spain, South of France or Italy. We are open to any suggestions so tempt us!!
