Our Home
Our 3 Bedroom, 2.5 bathroom, 2-story villa has spacious balconies, terraces and a swimming pool completely surrounded by nature with beautiful sea and mountain views in Kaṣ, Turkey (Mediterranean coastal town). We would also like to exchange vehicles (ours is a 2008 Renault Kangoo in great condition-very roomy) if this is possible.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE VILLA
Andizli Villa was built by us from the ground up, completed in 2011. It is a beautiful and spacious, two story house perched near the top of a mountain and abuts a vast region of protected forestry (juniper, wild oak and wild olive trees) to the east and south. The structure is a blend of rustic and modern Mediterranean styles with arches and lots of natural stone and marble work. We have a large travertine wrap-around terrace that overlooks the lush valley below to the west and overlooks the Mediterranean sea to the south where our bottle-green infinity pool is located right on top of a forested mountainside.
The open-plan first floor built entirely in natural stone (interior and exterior) includes:(1) the kitchen with two-tiered granite-top counter and bar, modern appliances, lots of workspace, plenty of cooking tools and equipment (oven, 4-burner stove, blender, food processor, toaster, coffee maker, large freezer-fridge…however NO microwave), and a window overlooking expanse of trees, valley and mountains; (2) a reading/working room where there is a book shelf and table we use as a desk and where the cast iron wood-burning stove is located; (3) a living room with a large flatscreen TV (many English language news, movie and TV channels) two large soft chairs and a big comfortable sofa, a climate control unit (heating and cooling), and large stone fireplace; (4) a dining area that is flanked on two sides by large arched glass double doors opening to two sides of the terrace and a table that seats up to 8 people comfortably; (5) a rather charming half-bathroom (sink and toilet); and (6) a small foyer at the entrance where you can hang your coats and stow your belongings for coming and going.
Half way up the deep, generous terracotta stairway is a landing that opens into the Mediterranean forest behind the house where you can access stone pathways that take you around the grounds a little ways and there is a stone lounging area with built in stone seating where you can relax under the juniper tree and read or have a tea literally in the forest.
Continuing up to the top floor, a lofted gabled ceiling with skylight leads you to the gem of the whole house, a covered terrace with three wide arches and fantastic views overlooking the sea and the valley. There is an out-door corner fireplace to enjoy this remarkable space even in cooler weather.
Also on this floor are the three bedrooms: master bedroom with double (queen) bed and sea view and full bathroom (shower and large bathtub) ensuite. One kids room with a baby crib and a single (twin) bed and one guest room with double bed (queen) and a shared full bathroom (shower and bathtub) between these two rooms. There is a second covered balcony shared by these two bedrooms as well, it overlooks the back (entrance and driveway and high mountain range) of the house. Each of the three bedrooms has a mounted climate control unit (heating and cooling) with remote control.
We are a family of artists and all of the art on our walls is original, and we also have a fine collection of both Western and Turkish antiques. To stay here is truly a remarkable experience and you will most certainly fall in love with the region.

Our Neighborhood
Kaṣ is a charming, seaside, well-loved vacation destination for Europeans. It is in the geographic center of the famous “Lycian Federation,” an ancient civilization whose countless ruins give lots of character to the area. If you don’t know Turkey, it is a very friendly country and this area of Turkey is western-minded and very comfortable for westerners to enjoy.
Kas is a perfect destination for people who want to see the best of Turkey in one go: it is authentically Turkish, but has a very European vibe as well. It has a bit of a bohemian feel and because it is far from an airport (a 2.5 hour drive) it's jaw-dropping natural and historic beauties remain unspoiled and it is not gummed up by an excess of tourists: visitors benefit from a personal, intimate experience with the pristine sea and ancient ruins.
Our village, Yenikoy, is a 10-15 minute drive, rife with spectacular sea views, up mountain from the heart of Kaṣ town. It is an authentically quaint rural village with not a single market and only one local restaurant. It’s a small beautiful farming valley and you are sure to pass herds of goats on your routes into town and back. The locals are friendly but keep their distance and we literally know each of them by name; it’s extremely safe (we often don’t bother to lock our car or house up at night!).
FAVORITE DAY TRIPS (under one hour travel time) to:
PATARA: major ancient Lycian city, sprawling excavation site full of extraordinary structures, sand dunes and a long sandy beach
KEKOVA: “sunken city” underwater ruins and spectacular coastline dotted with countless islands and ancient Lycian Castle
KAPUTAS Beach: gold sand, deep turquoise water
Greek Island “MEIS:” (also known as Kastellorizo or Megisti in Greek)-20 minute ferry ride to this distinctly Greek Isle (it is the eastern-most Greek isle)
PHELLOS: ancient Lycian city
DEMRE: home of the original Saint Nicholas, beautiful ancient Church architecture

Other Information
It also means we must travel during the off-season (winter), and greatly prefer to offer Andizli Villa for off-season stays, simultaneously. However, because travelers to our region typically come in summertime, we are willing to vacate our home in the warmer months in order to complete our exchange with you if need be. (Don’t worry, we have plenty of options for a temporary move.) The peak season is July-August, but the most beautiful time to visit is May/June, September/October/November when the heat in town is not at a painful level and the tourists are thinned out.

Our villa will be un-occupied from December 18, 2012 - February 5, 2013. If interested in a stay during this time period in exchange for a stay at your home to take place later in 2013 or in 2014, please contact.

We are always interested in a trip "home" to California. Grandparents (of our children) are in San Diego and Hermosa Beach and we have family in Los Altos Hills towards San Francisco as well. So we are happy to be near-ish to any of these major Californian cities.
After this winter (2012-2013) we are completely open to any destination in the world for a simultaneous exchange to take place any time during the months of November, December, January, February or March.
