Great, double storey house in half an acre of mature gardens with pool. We are located in a leafy suburb north of Johannesburg and the property is very secure as we have a resident maid, street guard and live in the same neighbourhood as Mr. Mandela. Fully equipped with all the Hi-Fi gear and log fireplaces. Great eat in kitchen and huge outside entertainment area with built-in outside kitchen, warming plate and gas range. Huge living room with Morso log fireplace and large dining room. Garaging for four cars. Lots of space for the kids to run around in a mature garden. Two cars available including a Toyota Prado and Ford Territory for safari. Outside gas barbecue and Weber.


Our house has full maid service. Our maid lives in a seperate cottage on the property and takes care of the house and our pets.


We have had many sucessful exchanges and love to help people make the most of their visit to our great country. We have arranged a number of itineraries for our guests including safaris, trips to the coast, Cape Town, golf tours, wine tours and diving. We've lived here for 17 years so know the country well.

Houghton is a leafy old suburb of Johannesburg. All the houses sit on at least half an acre of land. Nearby are all the shopping and restaurants you could crave at prices that any European or American would die for. (Big night out at a top restaurant for four with 2-3 bottles of top quality wine will cost you under a US$80! ) . You are 15 minutes from Jo'burg Zoo and only two hours from Pillansburg and Sun City for malaria free safari (N. B. we have timeshare at Sun City if that is of interest to swop) . Weather is great year round but especially nice in the Northern hemisphere Winter. Clear blue skies and 80-95F every day. One hour to the Malisberg mountains. Fantastic low cost golf on over twenty courses nearby. Safe area to jog any time of day.

We can also throw in a number of options for you to go on Safari as we are members of a South African residents club that gives us very attractive rates (even some free nights).

No smoking please inside the house, we have five dogs and three cats who are very child/people friendly. Maid takes care of them when we are away. Maid is resident on property (own seperate accomodation) so no worries about laundry, dishes, cleaning, babysitting or security.

Two cars available including a 4X4 Toyota Prado Landcruiser. Johannesburg is a delight for kids and you are only a few minutes drive to the African bush. Internal flights in South Africa are also cheap so it is easy to use Jo'burg as a base to explore the coast (very beautiful) , Cape Town, Victoria Falls etc.

We are pretty flexible on time and dates.

We enjoy skiing (either northern or southern hemisphere) other wise anywhere. Typically travel for at least two weeks at a time, but can go for longer breaks.

Tim & Gail have lived in Johannesburg for seventeen years since moving from the USA. We have two children aged 19 &20 now at College in the USA. The house is set up for entertaining by the pool and a barbecue enjoying our magnificant weather. We have a complete outdoor kitchen for entertaining.

Jo'burg is a 'big city', but the Northern suburbs where we live are quite safe and the rapid access to the Bush and to Sun City and the game parks is a great bonus.


We have had many successful exchanges with people who combine our house with a tour of South Africa which we can help organise - safari, coastal, cultural tours etc.
