Our holiday home is at Okawa Bay, on the edge of Lake Rotoiti, close to Rotorua.

It has simply the most incredible view over a sheltered bay of the lake and surrounding hills. It is on two levels with upstairs comprising very large open plan living/dining/kitchen area with high quality furniture and a new granite kitchen. Phone fax and fast satellite Internet for your notebook computer. On this level also is the master bedroom with king size bed, dressing room and TV. The fully tiled en suite bathroom has a walk in shower with a great lake view. Lounge has gas fire, blue ray home theatre setup, "Sky" satellite TV plus books and games, and a heating/air conditioning unit.
Theopen plan Kitchen has stove, microwave, dishwasher, and fridge/freezer, as well as all usual minor appliances, and has a glass breakfast conservatory ajoining. Dining table seats eight. Both Living area and upstairs bedroom have floor to ceiling, wall to wall glass so that you can watch the sun rise over the lake and hills from your bed, and both open onto a large patio deck with outdoor furniture and BBQ. Also on this level is a second living room/ fifth bedroom complex with lounge suite, study and en suite bathroom which sleeps two in a queen size folding bed settee. An additional 36 inch TV and Sky TV with 30 channels.
Downstairs there are three further bedrooms and the main bathroom (includes a double indoor/outdoor jacuzzi bath with a great lake view plus a shower, handbasin and toilet) Bathroom plus main large downstairs bedroom (super king size double or two single beds) look out over lake. One other bedroom has a double bed, and the fourth tiny bedroom has a pair of bunks.. There is a full length terrace here with furniture, and a pair of kayaks hang here. The house has a huge parking area and a big garage/workshop with table tennis, and it is set in a quarter acre fully landscaped garden of trees and lawns to the lake edge, where there is a jetty, private sandy beach and big firepit/BBQ area. On the beach are a 12 foot sailing catamaran and a 13 foot dinghy with oars and outboard motor for your use. Life jackets and trout fishing gear are included- Lake Rotoiti is said to hold the biggest trophy trout in NZ (although my best so far was tiny at only 8lbs!)

The house is a few minutes walk along the lake edge from an upmarket hotel restaurant, a general store/take away food bar. A tim minute walk brings you to the best fly fishing spot in NZ on Lake Rotorua
We are ten minutes by taxi to Rotorua airport which is a one hour flight from Auckland airport, and also has flights to all other NZ destinations plus Sydney.
Bustling Rotorua city with it's cafes and many tourist attractions is 16 minutes by car, and is the premier destination in New Zealand for visitors- lakes, forests, volcano cones, geysers, hot mineral pools, Jet boating, bush walks and native Maori history- there is more to do and see than you can cope with! Ten minutes from our house you can raft over the highest raftable waterfall in the southern hemisphere (or just take a beautiful rain forest walk to watch!)
If you yearn for the sea, you can head for beautiful beaches at the coast half an hour away, or one hour away is NZ's biggest lake, Taupo, with it's view of the snow capped mountains in the background. And yes, the house can be used as a base for a day's skiing on the mountain 2 hours away in Winter (July to November).

This house can be used in conjunction with our townhouse in Auckland- see linked separate listing. We can accommodate guests without leaving the country, so you don't have to fit in with when we are on holiday.

You can use our New Zealand properties in Auckland and/or Rotorua anytime you like, but note that in many cases we need to seek a non simultaneous exchange as we only travel to Europe each year in late May and return in September.

2011 is now booked up, but In 2012 we are doing our South American trip and need a week in Buenos Aires starting about 21st September and a week in Rio starting about 30th August 2012

In 2013 we would like to spend time in Greece, Turkey, and France and in UK, in June/July/August/September

Richard and Christine are in their mid 60's,and have worked together (financial planning and insurance services) in Richard's business for around thirty-five years. Having been good at what we do, and having grown up children, we semi retired at age 50 so the two of us can travel together for three months each year, mostly home exchanging. Interests include tennis, computers, boating, drama, trying to catch that 10 pound trout, and of course, travel. Now and again we travel with adult friends.
